Remove Duplicate Apps from my Home Screen on my Galaxy Device
Accidentally added a duplicate app icon, or confused about why you see "Uninstall" instead of "Remove"? This guide will help you clean up your Home Screen layout without accidentally deleting your apps.

Are you on the Home Screen or the Apps Tray?
Before you begin, it is important to know where you are looking:
- The Home Screen: This is your main display where you arrange your favourite apps and widgets. Icons gere are just shortcuts.
- The Apps Tray (Apps Screen): Swiping up from the bottom of your screen opens the Apps Tray, which lists every single app installed on your phone.
Removing an icon from the Home Screen deletes only the shortcut. Removing an icon from the Apps Tray, however, uninstalls the entire app from your phone.
Why do I see "Uninstall" instead of "Remove"?
If the menu shows an "Uninstall" option instead of "Remove", it usually means one of two things:
- You are in the Apps Tray: If you long-press an app inside the Apps Tray, you will not be able to remove it because you are viewing the master list of installed apps. To fix this, go back to your main Home Screen and try again.
- Your Home Screen layout is locked: If your settings lock your Home Screen, the system may restrict modifications. Go to Settings > Home Screen and make sure Lock Home screen layout is turned OFF.
